Each quarter IWCS recognizes a support staff member who has gone Above and Beyond the Call of Duty. Anyone throughout the division is invited to submit nominations. A panel reviews the nominees and selects the quarterly winners. Our 2018-2019 1st quarter winner is Donna Cowger, Cafeteria Manager at Hardy Elementary.
We received the following nomination for Mrs. Cowger from teacher Lee Ann Hawley:
Mrs. Cowger went out of her way to help my class work on our class project. She came in and talked to my class about safe food handling and preparation, invited the head chef to come in and talk with them, assisted in working with students to make pumpkin bread, and baked and stored the bread for us. She also helped us bake several other items we were making for our "pumpkin tasting." In addition, my students gave samples and took orders for pumpkin bread to raise money for the food bank and Mrs. Cowger will be assisted us in baking the 88 loaves of bread sold. She was enthusiastic and supportive and the students loved working with her.
As part of her award, Donna received a $50 Visa gift card thanks to the generous support of The Woman’s Club of Smithfield. She also received a personalized plaque created in the Smithfield High School MakerSpace.
