Greetings Isle of Wight County Schools Family-
I am pleased to welcome all of you back to another exciting and engaging school year! I hope that everyone has enjoyed their time off and had some time for rest and relaxation. During the summer months we have been participating in passionate discussions and collaborative planning sessions to prepare our school division to continue embarking upon educational excellence with our 21st century learners. All summer long, we have been looking at ways to win and cooking up some good recipes to incorporate into every day instruction.
We have some great building leaders in place and have ramped up our coordinator staff so that they can be better aligned to support all of you. With our technology efforts now expanding to the elementary and middle school grade levels, we are sure to meet the needs of our students and find even more creative ways to help them along in their academic journey. Although there have been some changes in our schools, I want to assure you that the arts have a permanent home in Isle of Wight County Schools and we will be moving full S.T.E.A.M ahead!
Our energy savings contract with Ameresco along with the support of Farmers Bank and CIP funding has allowed us to make some much needed improvements at ALL of our schools. The most visible differences were made to Hardy Elementary School and Westside Elementary School. Both schools will receive installations for more energy efficient windows, upgrades to the HVAC system, and new lighting. Also, we are so excited about opening the brand new beautiful Georgie Tyler Middle School for this school year. When you enter your school buildings, I hope that you can appreciate all of the hard work that went into preparing them to be a refreshed learning environment where academic success is sure to happen.
We have so much to be proud of as we kick the new school year off and there is much more to come. I look forward to working with all of you to help keep the momentum going!
Yours in the pursuit of educational excellence,
Dr. A. Katrise Perera
