Greetings Isle of Wight County Schools Family,
We are finally entering the month of March, and with all of the recent snowy weather it has certainly come in like a Lion so I hope that it will go out like a lamb! I would like to thank each of you again for all of your patience and flexibility as we worked through the challenging weather conditions. When my team and I make decisions regarding school closings and delays, we are always mindful of the safety of our students and staff. I would like to thank my team for proactively monitoring the weather to make decisions that were communicated in a timely matter. I also commend them for communicating our Inclement Weather Make-Up Plan as quickly as possible so that our staff and parents could plan accordingly. And now I am truly looking forward to warmer temperatures!
This time of year proves to be very busy for the school division as we kick off the FY15 budget process. We always strive to be budget conscious and fiscally responsible year-round, but our goal this year is to ensure that this budget process is one that is inclusive with purposeful planning that will allow us to strategically prioritize the needs of the school division. We have worked to include your voice in a number of ways such as forming a budget stakeholder committee, gathering feedback from the Teacher Advisory and Parent Advisory committees as well as from a number of civic organizations and community groups. Everyone should feel included in this process and know that there are several avenues to get involved. It is my duty as Division Superintendent to prepare every Isle of Wight County Schools student for educational excellence in the 21st century and your feedback is necessary for the success of that mission.
I hope that you will join us at our upcoming budget presentations and public comment meetings. My presentation for the FY15 Proposed Budget is now available for viewing on the division website and I invite you to visit the Budget Central section for all of the most up to date information regarding our budget. Questions can also be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org for a timely and accurate response.
Yours in the pursuit of educational excellence,
Division Superintendent, Isle of Wight County Schools
