Career and Technology Education
- Only completed applications will be considered.
- A separate application should be submitted for each program of interest.
- Students should be prepared to answer all questions and provide the name and email address of at least 2 references who can attest to your work ethic and desire to learn. The first two references must be current or former teachers, school counselors, administrators, or coaches. The third, optional reference may be from any current or former supervisor. (Supervisors may be from paid or volunteer work experiences.)
- Applications are due on or before May 1st of each school year. Applications received after the closing date will only be considered if space allows.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares students for a wide range of careers, workplace readiness skills, industry certifications and further educational opportunities. These careers may require varying levels of education, including: industry-recognized credentials, postsecondary certificates, and college degrees. The dual enrollment program in partnership with community colleges and universities allows students to obtain college credits while attending high school.
CTE is offered in our middle schools and high schools. CTE is at the forefront of preparing students for college, career and life. Students may begin career exploration and development in middle and high school through a variety of career and technical education programs. Courses are offered in agriculture, business and information technology, marketing, technology education, military science, health & medical sciences, and trade & industrial education. Cooperative education opportunities enable students to gain valuable workplace experience.
The CTE program equips students with:
- Core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills in order to function successfully in the workplace.
- Esential emÂployment skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, citizenship and communication.
- Job-specific technical skills related to a career pathway.
- Industry certifications necessary for the workplace, i.e. Manufacturing Technician Level 1 (MT1).
Postsecondary Education and Employment Data
The school division's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program must include notice on its website to enrolled high school students and their parents of (1) the availability of postsecondary education and employment data published by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia, and (2) the opportunity for such students to obtain a nationally recognized career readiness certificate at a local public high school, comprehensive community college, or workforce center.
