Isle of Wight County Schools was recognized by Opportunity Inc., the Hampton Roads Workforce Development Board, during its 2018 Annual Meeting and Workforce Innovation Awards ceremony, which highlighted the organization’s workforce development programs, services, and accomplishments over the past year. The meeting took place on September 26 at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center.

Isle of Wight County Schools vision is to create a learning environment that students can discover their unique gifts and talents. We've established quite a few partnerships with local and area businesses such as Liebherr, Monsanto, Sumitomo, several other business and I think the unique thing about those partnership so they've given us financial support materials and supplies but more importantly they have given their expertise and met with us to design our learning spaces so they become authentic places where kids can go directly from high school and understand the environment that they'll be in in the workplace. 3 years ago Smithfield Foods get his $3000000 to pursue 
 the redesign of technical education. We presented a plan to them and how we might redesign this experience for students and they've been a huge partner allowing us to create these spaces.  We actually have a farm for our high school students where they actually work with a farm manager and agriculture teacher so we're creating environments that they're working with the animals live.  We're working with another one of our new business partners Chartwell food who does the food service for us they've donated $10,000 to certify any of the crops that are grown in that farm so that we can use those and actually feed our students at Windsor Elementary school and  that's really unique that not only can a high school student learn our elementary students can go right out and learn STEM.  Agriculture is STEM and to have that hands on experience for both our elementary students and our high school students interacting is really unique.   We keep talking about redesigning the educational experience we wanted to do more than just have a bunch of CTE classes. Everyone can do that.  You have a lot more CTE courses but they need to be different. To be different they need to be fully immersed in in the class we're coming up with an Innovative new schedule for students who are in the career and Technical pathway and what we're actually proposing is a week-on-week off alternating schedule where students take all of their academic classes in week 1 and the next week they'll be in their CTE course all day long all week long and with that they'll be able to actually go out and do internships all day with businesses for that entire week we believe that if they can get the level of training here that they can go directly to the workforce and we still want them to go on to Paul D Camp another Regional Schools to get further training but we want to do as much for them here as we can our goal is to have every student college career and life ready and so being recognized by opportunity inc. local businesses Virginia businesses for this award kind of validates all of our work and we're keeping our promise to Our Community to our students and to our Workforce that we want our students ready for you
