We have been monitoring the weather in preparation for our outdoor graduation ceremony. Heavy rain forecast for today and Thursday will make the fields unusable for Friday. We have received feedback from many families that, due to attendees traveling from out of town and having plans for celebratory events on the evening of June 11, keeping the June 11 date for graduation will be more inclusive for all of our graduates and their families. Because of this, we have made the decision to move the graduation inside. We have secured an indoor location for a June 11 graduation. Liberty Live Church in Hampton, Virginia (1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton VA 23666) has made itself available to us and, due to the facility’s size, allows for guests to distance themselves based on preference. The facility is beautiful and will be a wonderful venue for our graduation ceremony. Masks will not be required for staff, students, or guests. In addition, seniors will now receive 8 tickets for guests. The time for the ceremony has also been moved to 11:00 am.
Seniors will need to arrive by 9:00 am for a brief practice, with doors opening to guests at 10:00 am. and the official ceremony beginning at 11:00 am.
Families and guests are encouraged to allow enough travel time to account for possible openings at the James River Bridge. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 am
Liberty will stream the ceremony live and the link will be posted on the Isle of Wight County School Facebook page.
Mandatory Graduation practice for seniors will still be held on June 10 at 10:30 am at WHS.
