The First Lady of Virginia Pam Northam visited Hardy Elementary School in support of early childhood education programs. Students in the Head Start and PreSchool classrooms met with her in the school courtyard as she spent part of her time reading the book Jabari Tries to the children. She also donated a box of PPE supplies to the school, along with a signed book for the library, and a special edition First Lady challenge coin for each child. Also in attendance with Mrs. Northam was State Senator Louise Lucas who represents part of Isle of Wight County.
Bus Routes for Windsor High and Georgie Tyler Middle are now posted on the IWCS website. Smithfield High and Smithfield Middle A Day routes are also available. SHS and SMS B Day routes will be posted by the end of the day today.
Angie Smith, Director of Dining services for Isle of Wight County Schools and Chartwells, was recently recognized as a K-12 Food Service Hero by Food Management. Smith was nominated by Gene Sanchez, regional vice president at Chartwells.
Daniel Judkins, the Farm Manager for Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS), has been recognized as Virginia Tech’s Agricultural Technology Outstanding Alumni (>10 years). The award was announced during the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Alumni Organization Celebration of Ut Prosim, the university’s motto which means “That I May Serve.”
This is a reminder that October 12 is now a regular school day for students. On the original calendar, October 12 was designated as a Student Holiday. This has changed and October 12 will now be a regular school day. October 16 will be a student holiday. Students will not receive any new assignments on Friday, October 16.
In addition,we are excited to welcome back our Hybrid A/B Model 4th and 5th graders to in-person learning next week. We look forward to seeing our A Day 4th and 5th graders on Monday, October 12, and our B Day 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday, October 13.
