First Lady Pam Northam Visits Hardy Elementary School

The First Lady of Virginia Pam Northam visited Hardy Elementary School in support of early childhood education programs. Students in the Head Start and PreSchool classrooms met with her in the school courtyard as she spent part of her time reading the book Jabari Tries to the children. She also donated a box of PPE supplies to the school, along with a signed book for the library, and a special edition First Lady challenge coin for each child. Also in attendance with Mrs. Northam was State Senator Louise Lucas who represents part of Isle of Wight County.

IWCS Farm Manager Recognized by Virginia Tech

Daniel Judkins, the Farm Manager for Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS), has been recognized as Virginia Tech’s Agricultural Technology Outstanding Alumni (>10 years).  The award was announced during the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Alumni Organization Celebration of Ut Prosim, the university’s motto which means “That I May Serve.”

October 12 is now a regular school day for students; Hybrid A/B 4th &5th Graders Return Oct. 12 & 13

This is a reminder that October 12 is now a regular school day for students. On the original calendar, October 12 was designated as a Student Holiday. This has changed and October 12 will now be a regular school day. October 16 will be a student holiday. Students will not receive any new assignments on Friday, October 16.

In addition,we are excited to welcome back our Hybrid A/B Model 4th and 5th graders to in-person learning next week. We look forward to seeing our A Day 4th and 5th graders on Monday, October 12, and our B Day 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday, October 13.

IWCS to Hear Public Comment on Proposed Capital Improvement Plan

The school division annually develops a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to cover large projects related to buildings and other facilities.  Information, such as enrollment projections and building capacity, are referenced as part of the planning process. The proposed plan is submitted to the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors for consideration for inclusion in the county's CIP.  The Isle of Wight County School Board will hear Public Comment on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) during the October 8, 2020 School Board meeting.

Interim Reports Distribution Plan for October 7

Interim reports are scheduled to be issued on October 7.

Parents of students in grades 3 through 12 should check their child's grades using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have trouble accessing the portal, please contact your child's teacher for a paper copy of the interim.

Students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade on the hybrid schedule will receive a printed copy to take home. Parents of 100% virtual students in Kindergarten through second grade should contact their child's teacher to request an interim report.
