Update to IWCS Meal Distribution Program

Isle of Wight County Schools will continue the current meal distribution program through Monday, June 15. Beginning Tuesday, June 16th, IWCS will distribute 5 days of meals (breakfast and lunch) every Tuesday. A schedule of pick up sites and bus locations will be shared this weekend.

The Isle of Wight County School Board will hold their June 11 meeting in the cafeteria at Westside Elementary School.

The public CAN attend the meeting at WSES in limited capacity.  However, the meeting will not have an opportunity for in-person public comment.  The meeting will be streamed live through the division's Facebook and YouTube page to allow for an audience while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Anyone wishing to have remarks heard during the citizens comments section of the meeting can email their written comments to Tracey Reutt, Board Clerk, at  or mail their comments to Isle of Wight County School Board, 820 W. Main St., Smithfield, VA 23430 ATTN:  Tracey Reutt.  Mailed remarks must be received by Tuesday, the week of the board meeting.  Emailed remarks must be received by noon the day of the meeting.  Remarks are limited to five minutes per person.

A Message to the IWCS Community from Superintendent Dr. Jim Thornton

I am reaching out to the IWCS community to express my sadness, heartache, and dismay over the recent events surrounding the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and resulting violence across the country. What we have seen is a result of the very real issue of racism and inequality that can no longer be ignored. I believe to say and do nothing in times like these is unacceptable.

iPad Collection for Elementary and Middle School Students

iPads, along with charging blocks and cables, will need to be returned on Friday June 12 or Monday June 15, anytime from 8am to 8pm. Return the iPad, fully charged, to the same site where it was issued. Any equipment not returned will result in a charge to the student's school account. Your child's school will be sending out additional notifications over the next two weeks.

Isle of Wight County Schools 2020 Virtual Summer School Program

The IWCS summer school program will provide students with the opportunity to take a new course during the summer for high school credit--Health & PE 9, Health & PE 10, Economics & Personal Finance. This will open-up their schedule during the school year and give them more flexibility to take advanced classes (AP, Dual Enrollment), add additional electives or participate in regional programs (Governor’s Schools). The tuition-based program will be delivered in an online format and will be facilitated by an IWCS teacher. Students must have access to the internet outside of school. Registration Deadline is June 12.
