We have been monitoring the weather in preparation for our outdoor graduation ceremony. Heavy rain forecast for today through Friday will make the fields unusable for Saturday. We have received feedback from many families that, due to attendees traveling from out of town and having plans for celebratory events on the evening of June 12th, keeping the June 12th date for graduation will be more inclusive for all of our graduates and their families. We have secured an indoor location for a June 12th graduation. Liberty Live Church in Hampton, Virginia (1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton VA 23666) has made itself available to us and, due to the facility’s size, allows for guests to distance themselves based on preference. The facility is beautiful and will be a wonderful venue for our graduation ceremony. The time for the ceremony has also been moved to 10:00 am. Families and guests are encouraged to allow enough travel time to account for possible openings at the James River Bridge. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am
Liberty will stream the ceremony live and the link will be posted on the Isle of Wight County School Facebook page and Smithfield High School’s website.
Mandatory Graduation practice for seniors will still be held on June 11th at 9:30 am at SHS. Additional information will be shared with parents and Seniors on Thursday.
