IWCS to Hear Public Comment on Proposed Capital Improvement Plan

The school division annually develops a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to cover large projects related to buildings and other facilities.  Information, such as enrollment projections and building capacity, are referenced as part of the planning process. The proposed plan is submitted to the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors for consideration for inclusion in the county's CIP.  The Isle of Wight County School Board will hear Public Comment on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) during the October 8, 2020 School Board meeting.  This will be an opportunity for citizens to identify additional capital projects that should be addressed in the CIP. If you click on the link below, you will see the approved CIP with a new Hardy Elementary School grades pre-k through 4 and a Westside Middle School with a new grade configuration of grades 5 through 7.  A roof for Windsor High School has been approved and a new bus garage and administrative building in the out years 5-10. We need to hear your voice and input for large ticket items such as a football field, a new track and field, or other needs that you may have at the school level. The CIP is done every fall and the planning commission sends its recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for a vote each Spring.

The meeting will begin at 5:00pm and will be held in the cafeteria of Smithfield High School, 14171 Turner Dr., Smithfield, VA 23430. After calling the meeting to order, the Board will vote to move into closed session. At 6:00 pm, the Board will reconvene in open session. Citizens will be able to sign up to speak on the CIP the night of the meeting. Citizen comments on the CIP will occur shortly after 6:00 p.m. Comments are limited to 5 minutes per speaker and masks are required at the meeting.
