IWCS Announces 2026 Support Employee of the Year

Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS) is proud to announce Mrs. Anne Wright, Instructional Assistant at Carrollton Elementary School, as the 2026 IWCS Support Employee of the Year.

The Support Employee of the Year program recognizes the vital contributions of classified staff members who help create a thriving learning environment for students across the division. From instructional assistants to office staff, transportation personnel, and more, these individuals play an essential role in supporting student success and strengthening school communities.

Wright was selected for her exceptional skill, dedication, and unwavering commitment to students and staff. Drawing on her background in teaching, she provides meaningful instructional support, collects and analyzes student data, and consistently prioritizes student success in her daily work. She is also known for mentoring fellow instructional assistants and helping build capacity among her colleagues.

At Carrollton Elementary, Mrs. Wright goes well beyond her role in the classroom. She plays a key leadership role in the school’s daily dismissal process, calmly coordinating communication between staff, students, and families in a fast-paced environment. Her ability to remain composed under pressure, paired with her strong communication skills, ensures a safe and efficient end to each school day.

In addition to her leadership within the school, Mrs. Wright has made a meaningful impact in the community. She has helped connect families in need with local resources, including organizing a holiday Angel Tree program through her church to support Carrollton students. Her compassion and willingness to step in and meet the needs of others exemplify the spirit of service this award is designed to honor.

“With her background in teaching, Anne Wright has been an exemplary instructional assistant because she understands students and curriculum and how to bring the two together,” said Carrollton Elementary School Principal Robert D. Brennan. “Anne mentors younger Instructional Assistants and she does so with a positive, professional attitude. Nearing retirement, it would be easy to start slowing down but Anne is going out in style with an upbeat attitude and serving as a model of an employee who adds value daily.”

“I am truly honored and humbled to be named Support Employee of the Year,” said Mrs. Anne Wright. “Working with our students each day is incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring school community. Carrollton Elementary is a special place, and I am proud to contribute in any way I can to help our students succeed.”

Mrs. Wright will be recognized at the IWCS Education Celebration ceremony in May, along with other outstanding staff members from across the division.
