New School Board Liaison to Represent Smithfield High

Smithfield High School student Hannah Hamrick has been appointed as the new student liaison to the Isle of Wight County School Board. Hannah was introduced at the June School Board meeting and will serve as the Smithfield High School Student Liaison during her junior and senior years, representing the voices and perspectives of her fellow students.

Hannah was selected through a competitive application and interview process, distinguishing herself through exceptional leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to service. She currently serves as Secretary for her class and is an active member of the Beta Club, Interact Club, and National Honor Society. Throughout high school, she has challenged herself with a rigorous academic program that includes Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment courses.

Her leadership potential has also been recognized beyond the classroom. Hannah was one of only three sophomores selected to represent Smithfield High School at the Jostens Renaissance Leadership Conference, where students develop skills to foster positive school culture and strengthen student leadership.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Hannah is dedicated to serving her community. She volunteers as a Junior Ambassador at Riverside Hospital, working alongside healthcare professionals and volunteer coordinators while assisting patients and visitors. She also balances her volunteer service with employment and participation on the Smithfield High School volleyball team.

As a student liaison, Hannah will attend School Board meetings, share student perspectives, and serve as a bridge between the Board and the students of Smithfield High School. Her insight and leadership will help ensure that student voices remain an important part of Board discussions and decision-making.

"We are excited to welcome Hannah to the School Board and look forward to the perspective, insight, and student voice she will bring to our discussions over the next two years," said Superintendent Dr. Christopher Coleman.

The Isle of Wight County School Board congratulates Hannah on her selection and looks forward to the positive impact she will make in this important leadership role.
