WHS and SHS Students Bring Home Awards from State Latin Convention

From Windsor High: Abby Nelms placed 10th in Storytelling; Mercian Bullis received 5th place in Mixed Media and 3rd place in Black Pencil; Naomi Bullis was awarded 7th place in Colored Pencil and 1st place in Impromptu Art.


From Smithfield High: Solen Grossman earned 1st place in Geography, 2nd place in Roman History, 8th place in Modern Myth, and 10th place in Pencil Drawings; Lauren Oliver received 1st place in Posters and 4th Place in Children's Books; Tom Gover placed 2nd in English Oratory.


As a school, Smithfield High won the Street Certamen, a high-energy competition with participants answering questions on classical knowledge and trivia. They also placed 2nd in the T-shirt contest, where they were judged on their creativity, use of convention theme, and visual impact.


The Smithfield High Latin Club is sponsored by April Spratley. The Windsor High Latin Club is sponsored by Jason Crawford.


The Junior Classical League Convention brings Latin students together from all over the state to meet and share ideas. The event provides opportunities for students to compete in a variety of activities in various academic, dramatic, and social categories.
